The society is now under the guidance of Joseph Matthews, a Hunterstown native and lifelong resident. Joe began his duties as President in January 2010. Our meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of every month and we plan to have two or three historical presentations a year. We are now publishing a quarterly newsletter, “Hunterstown Reflections”, in February, May, August and November. Minutes of the meetings will now be sent to all active members of the society. A new sense of commitment has been seen by members who participate in each meeting. The by-laws are undergoing review and will be updated to reflect the commitment and goals of the society.
The mission of the society is to: 1. Provide a forum to discuss the historical heritage of the Village of Hunterstown and the surrounding area; 2. Provide a means to document and store historical records and artifacts for the Village of Hunterstown and the surrounding area; 3. Schedule and hold special events and presentations for the educational, recreational and cultural benefit of area residents and supporting members; 4. Conduct fund raisers and solicit funds to acquire property and establish a permanent home for the society; 5. Work with local and state agencies to bring recognition of historical events and sites in Hunterstown and the surrounding area; and, 6. Support the preservation of historical buildings and sites by providing available historical information and contact information for those interested in preservation. |
